Mochi is my favorite Japanese treat! It feels very doughy and chewy on the outside, like a shell but in the inside, is yummy ice cream! I tried this out at Whole Foods market which is quite close to our house. When the taste hit my tongue, there was no way that I could stop having it. It was absolutely delicious!

Loved watching all your posts on Anya's blog. The sketches you have made in your Anime class are very good. I really admire them. The Mochi post is equally good and interesting. I am happy that you have started taking interest in recipes and food. Dadi Ma
Really? That is so interesting! I had no idea. Now I learned something today!
Traditionally, mochi was made from whole rice, in a labor-intensive process. The traditional mochi-pounding ceremony in Japan is mochitsuki: Polished glutinous rice is soaked overnight and steamed. The steamed rice is mashed and pounded with wooden mallets (kine) in a traditional mortar (usu).
I love mochi ice cream. But did you know that mochi actually doesn't have ice cream, it actually has red bean paste. Chefs take hours and hours to make a good mochi. It's considered a very well regarded skill among the Japanese to make good mochi.
