O.M.G. What happened at the MET Gala? And what does Kim Kardashian have to do with it?
First, what is the MET Gala? The MET Gala/ Ball, which was formally called the Costume Institute Gala or the Costume Institute Benefit, is an yearly gala held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. The MET Gala is an invitation only and there is a waiting list to get a ticket. According to The New York Times, invitations are typically based on a person's status meaning that you will see tons of A list celebrities, and famous music artists. Even some Olympic Gold Medalists like Chloe Kim who is a snow boarder. You will see Kardashians and Tiktok stars like Addison Rae.
Basically, it's a BIG DEAL.
Who is Kim Kardashian? Kim Kardashian is a famous reality TV star who became incredibly famous along with her sisters, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie Jenner and for years, they have dominated the Reality TV star scene. She is a socialite, model, media personality, and businesswoman. She first gained media attention as a friend and stylist of Paris Hilton,
and was also married to Kanye West and they have four children - North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm West.
What did Kim Kardashian do at the MET?
Kim Kardashian borrowed the famous dress, worn by actress Marilyn Monroe dress from Ripley's Orlando location and wore it to the MET Gala. She promised that she could fit into it but she needed to lose some serious weight. Some articles talked about how she may have starved herself in order to fit into the dress and even after losing 16 pounds in 3 weeks, she still didn't fit into the dress and had to leave some parts open and cover the back up with a shawl.
What are people saying?
After the MET, people started commenting on things about her dress and
how she lost weight. Many people stated that Marilyn Monroe's dress should have stayed on display as a piece of history. “Historic garments should not be worn by anybody, public or private figures,” said ICOM in a radio statement. They also said “Prevention is better than cure. Wrong treatment will destroy an object forever." People also started to share out on Instagram and other social media platforms.“So wrong. So f***ed on 100s of levels,” Lili Reinhart wrote on her Instagram story. “To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the MET Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is other-worldly and disgusting.”
